DENNISTOUN BAR-B-QUE

THE EAST END DINER!

Since moving to the east end of Glasgow earlier this year I’ve made a point of trying some of the local eateries in the area and haven’t been disappointed. That is especially true of Dennistoun Bar-B-Que and it’s simple but delicious menu.

I’ve been to Dennistoun Bar-B-Que a few times now but this was the first visit since I moved into the area and the first since I started this little endeavour. One of my favourite things about this place is what you see is what you get! There’s no frills, just delicious food and plenty of it.

Taking pride of place on Duke Street they offer burgers, BBQ smoked meats, ribs and a selection of delicious sides to round out your meal. The burger menu covers all the bases and offers plenty of choice for even the most pickiest of burger eaters. From the simple and tasty Carnival to the fully loaded Columbia there’s something for every burger lover.

If you fancy something different then there’s also the BBQ-smoked meats, hot wings and for the more adventurous appetites out there some quirky menu items like the Nutella ribs. The sides menu is also loaded with choices such as fries, mac n cheese and the Texan inspired campfire chili.

If the food menu wasn’t tempting enough (what’s wrong with you??) then they’ve also recently acquired their drinks licence meaning you can now wash your meal down with a selection of beers and premium US sodas.

Dennistoun Bar-B-Que also offer take out for collection and delivery at the weekends. Their recent Instagram post to let us know that they’ve expanded their delivery area should have you crossing your fingers and hoping you’re in it for the inevitable weekend hangover and the need for some good ol’ dirty food.

Now as I’ve mentioned earlier, this wasn’t my first visit to Dennistoun Bar-B-Que and on two of my previous visits I sat there with what can only be described as ‘food envy’ as my friends tucked into a Columbia burger. So as you may have guessed, I opted this time to preempt that inevitable feeling and order the Columbia myself. I also ordered the seasoned fries, onion fries and as you can see above a bottle of Schlitz and a Pepsi Fire to wash it all down!

Now that picture above is what I meant earlier about there being plenty of it! Now normally I prefer my food on a plate but when it tastes this good I’ll happily take it piled high on a tray. The Columbia burger was pretty much everything I hoped it would be and more.

The biggest problem I had with the burger was figuring out how to eat it giving it’s size. I toyed with cutting it in half and trying to preserve my dignified demeanour but quickly dismissed this idea and went all in.

The Columbia burger comes fully loaded with double bacon, cheese, pit pork and slaw. There’s also the options to double up or triple up though I struggle to fathom someone being able to finish one of those giving the size of my single burger. The burger was beyond good, cooked to perfection and only enhanced with the addition of the above ingredients. I’ve now tried 3 of the burgers on the menu and have yet to be disappointed.

The seasoned fries were cajun spiced and the perfect accompaniment to the burger. I normally prefer chunky chips but I also love cajun spiced anything so these pretty much cancelled each other out and left me to enjoy eating them. The onion fries were essentially onion rings and were more ordered out of curiousity, that said I still ate them all.

One of the unsung heroes of Dennistoun Bar-B-Que from what I’ve read is the actual BBQ sauce that’s on the tables alongside the chipotle mayo. When I tried the BBQ sauce I was left conflicted: I couldn’t decide whether I wanted it to be homemade, as that would be more impressive than it being bought, or whether I wanted it to be bought in purely so I could go buy some! it really was that good!

I’m a firm believer that good food should be enjoyed in the right environment and Dennistoun-Bar-B-Que offer this as well in abundance. They really have embraced the diner theme and it’s enjoyable to watch the hustle and bustle of the kitchen going on while you wait for your meal. They also have a very laid back vibe and the music playing in the background was particularly pleasing on my visit (I’ve been listening to The Pixies for days now) which is a big plus for me.

It’ll be no surprise to you reading this to find that I’m going to recommend you go to Dennistoun-Bar-B-Que and that you do it now! GO! What are you waiting for??
